About Joseph Thomas, MA, LPC:
I am a facilitator for the changes in your life that you desire and want to make happen.
Addressing the concerns and dreams of those around me has always brought out my sense of passion and purpose. I believe people will thrive given the right circumstances, environment, and information. You can change the way you think about yourself or approach your goals. You can increase your sense of personal dignity as you pursue happiness in love, friendships, and work.
I graduated with a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Xavier University prior to completing clinical internships and post-graduate experiences in community non-profit and outpatient substance abuse agencies. I developed my skillset working with diverse groups of people using the knowledge and training of evidence-based mental health practices. My counseling approach integrates choice theory, existential psychology, and contemporary trauma theory to balance the process of emotional recovery with taking actionable steps towards improvement.
Combining this education with my perspectives on human growth and healing, I have developed a philosophy that counseling:
Should go at your pace but does not always have to be long to be effective
Should be informed by the real and scientific effects of trauma
Should use each person’s self-expertise and goals as a foundational starting point
If you have any questions or want to learn more about my work, please give me a call to talk further. I’d love to hear from you.
